The thing to remember is that European spec cars have tiny engines. A Base Golf has a 114 hp engine in Europe. Which combined with the lower drag coefficient of a Prius and the higher horsepower makes the Golf a slower car.
Last time I was in Germany, which would have been mid 2010s, the fastest “normal” cars on the Autobahn were Priuses (Prii?) Yes, BMWs and MBs and the like were much faster, but compared to the Golfs and similiar cars, the Priuses were significantly faster.
