I’m with you. All of the restrictions I was reading about (for example, stop using certain creams on your face! Fuck that) just felt like losing control of my body as a woman to a world of what ifs. Plus so much advice was contradictory.

A lot of those things that shouldn’t be eaten carry a risk of giving you listeria. Normally ones body can fight it off but pregnancy lowers/shuts off your immune system. So you may not personally get sick but baby could and die of listeria which is essential blood poisoning. Not really worth the risk albeit however…

I did love Anna’s piece on Superstar Machine, but for me, NOTHING can top her dispatches from the conspiracy theorists’ cruise. That was such an amazing bundle of WTF delivered in a thoughtful and calm way.

I’m sure it didn’t make the timing cutoff, but Madeleine’s Becoming Ugly essay deserves a spot on here too. That hit me (as I’m sure with most everyone who read it) right in my core in a way few pieces of writing have.
