I fly out of a main United hub (SFO) and have avoided them for years now. Bad service, deliberate lack of amenities. Go Virgin!

Yeah there weren’t more than a handful out of dozens who actually condoned what United did (and more than a few of them were clearly trolling) but people are going to keep an argumentative thread going on for much longer than one where everyone’s in agreement. Unless it’s funny and full of dogs being adorably awkward.…

The comments over on Gizmodo are depressing AF. To paraphrase, the elderly doctor deserved it, should not have raised his voice, should have just used his “cell phone to re-book patients from his hotel room,” and that this whole incident has been entirely blown out of proportion.

It’s pretty darn shocking. I guess equality and accomodation are important values right up until people experience the teeniest personal inconvenience and then WHOA! Deaf people should know better than to show up for a movie without calling ahead! -_-

They distract me and annoy me in English-language stuff — but if I were sharing a theater with hearing impaired people, of course I’d deal with it. Because I meet the bare minimal standards of being a civilized human being living in a society.

I grew up with a deaf mother and quite a few deaf family members and don’t remember ever watching tv without CC. I’ve also shown up to theaters in the middle of Bumblefuck, New Jersey and asked them to turn the captioning on when we were there. This was in the early 2000s so CC shows aren’t exactly new/unaccessible…

My step-uncle(whom I’ve never met) is deaf. His family sent him to a school for the deaf. He learned sign language but NO ONE else in the family bothered. I was absolutely stunned when I learned this. I mean, do they just not want to communicate with him? Is he just supposed to lip read? I’ve been disabled since birth…

Everyone else in the theatre:

This is dumb. If you don’t have personal CC devices, just turn on the captioning. Sure, someone might get annoyed, but people without disabilities just need to learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them.  

Actually.......Asians on average have to score higher then whites and blacks on SAT/ACT for admissions.

The liberal pockets are pretty racist too, as I have learned by joining NextDoor.
