I've found a combination of OpenDNS and DD-WRT suites my needs well. The former to block specific websites and categories. The latter to shut my wi-fi down at midnight.

Thanks, that's a good suggestion, maybe I'll do a follow up post and throw a few commercial products in the mix.

I like McKnights Roth IRA suggestion. It's a good compromise between a conservative 401k and taking a huge chance managing stocks yourself. There are some high-risk/high-return funds you can choose from.

KDE or Gnome?

I know it's not cool to promote Facebook, but you can create lists that very effectively manage your friends.

Old carmex jars and 2 liter bottle caps work well too, depending on the size of the screws.

I play hockey and I wanted to test the best homemade solution. I tried several different substances and tested them using a tea kettle. See the results: [www.schoolyardpuck.com]

So true. (see xkcd #272) On another note, the first thing I thought of when I read the title of this article is, "You can fine tune my hardware" Normally I'm not that immature.

Another vote for PCLinuxOS. My experience has been very similar. Package requests are granted in a timely manner as well.

This should be the distro of choice for any Linux beginner coming from Windows.

I used it for several months on my Eee, but ended up switching to Peppermint OS and it is my current netbook favorite.

I backed up my account using getmail and following this tutorial. It grabbed ~350 messages at at time. I went with the Maildir method. It wasn't too painful.

This new layout has got me thinking about usability. What are the top 3 sites you visit that are the most USABLE?

"I don't believe in stealing content that would otherwise cost money" I think this the key. Example, I wanted to watch the Super Bowl online. I would have paid up to $10 for it. I wanted to pay for a high-quality steam. I couldn't find it ANYWHERE so I used justin.tv instead.

@curlymeatball38: Yeah...his first solo album Faith went 10 times platinum and had four #1 hits...just sayin.

@curlymeatball38: George Michael a one-hit wonder? Wait, do you count the work he did with Wham?

@snark_attack: I dunno your style, but if it were me, I would make light of it. After that first Dorito, I'd look over smiling and ask, "Could you crunch any louder?"

I need a recommendation for a good host for a Wordpress blog. I read this [lifehacker.com] but still not sure what to go with. Traffic isn't heavy, less than 1,000 visits/day.

@airgreat151: How long is that price guaranteed? Just one year?

@emrichar: Almost a year ago I got one. It had a shirt, (2) lego-style iPod docks, a pink camera tripod, and a cheap cardboard picnic basket kit.
