@operator207: You seem to be confused on what we are discussing here. What "spam Bot" are you referring to? I think you need to actually use the product before you can define what we are discussing.
@Christoph Wagner: Yes, there is an option to turn off news and announcements. You can "Opt Out". Would you like to see a screen shot? Please, don't be like others and just buy into the hype, look first.
@cattrain: Devs ask users to show their support by using functionality to send a message. Same as a forum post or blog post. This enables users that enjoy the software to speak up, even if they don't read Lifehacker, they can still show support.
If you think about it though, even if Digsby and/or Astra used a news message asking it's users to vote, which one had more users vote? It seems that Astra has more dedicated users who actually care enough to vote.
