I would LOVE to be able to choose between jobs that pay $15 an hour or above. THERE ARE VERY FEW. I started out as an intern making $9 an hour at a marketing agency while I was still in college. I worked almost full-time my last two years in college because I wanted to prove I was worth a look for a salaried position

Only when all the Baby Boomers start to retire and we’re finally allowed to replace their old stingy asses. I love being told in my 30's that I still need to pay my dues and be happy to have “a job” by old white men that got a degree in anything and were handed a job out of college that paid not only a living wage,

when I want better employees I usually offer less money to attract good quality candidates.....you know.....business smarty things.

And then the Loch Ness Monster gets a decent cut of that.

Are your parents... just being obtuse? (edited a meaner comment) I mean, all they have to do is look at the cost of houses in the past 5-10 years to realize how expensive shit has gotten.

I’m starting to think its the R. Kelly sort of “trickle.”

But it’s cool, we can earn less because the job creators are able generate more wealth.

Exactly. I looked in vain for mention of the jacked-up costs of health insurance, rent, and every other damn thing except computers.

I quit trying to practice. I couldn’t get any private firm to hire me full time in my area (this was in 2011 so admittedly the market is probably better now) and taking county cases was barely paying the bills. Now I teach and I love it but good on you for starting your own firm! People asked if I thought about this

In this day and age, a Masters degree is about equivalent to what a Bachelors degree *used to be*.

(in part due to there being just *WAY* too many people because of factors such as fundamentalists crazy big families)

That argument drives me nuts: we need people to do this job. We want people who are both talented and passionate. This pretty much applies to most any job. So WHY in the world shouldn’t they get at the very least a living wage and ideally a wage that reflects the bullshit lip service we love to pay about respecting

I tried to explain these numbers to my parents and they laughed it off.

I am an attorney with over 2 years of work experience, and I make less than $50,000/year.

It’s gotta trickle down eventually, right?

I made more waitressing in bars than teaching in colleges. Everyone thinks this is hilarious - especially students who thought they were my "boss" because "we are paying YOU so much."

A bigger issue is that jobs that really just require a HS diploma(and used to) now require a 4 year degree AT LEAST, so you can show them you are adequately in high debt and likely to stay in their crappy job working for shitty managers, and enjoying their disappearing benefits forever. Or until they go under, get

Tree fiddy.

Before people start in on knowing how much they make before I made it my major, shut the fuck up.

You forgot to put “job creators” in quotes.
