And his putting on a dress and preying on women IS his psychosis, in both cases. They’re part and parcel the same. It’s a stereotype which really took hold and was portrayed for a long time in movies and television, when the reality was that trans people were SO MUCH MORE likely to be on the receiving end of violence.

Yes, “Apu” almost immediately became a racist slur, hurled at anyone who fit the character’s aspects in however minor a way. Regardless of their occupation, or origin.

It’s when she repeats it with that little sob catching her voice - amazing.

As mentioned elsewhere, check out “Can You Ever Forgive Me” to see what she can do, she’s really good in it.

Not necessarily the best, just old songs which had been written for the studio by the producer, iirc.

Definitely a movie which rewards multiple viewings, especially over a few decades. I love it now at 55 as much as I did at 25, and it definitely doesn’t say the same things to me now. Now, I think Genevieve would never have been happy or satisfied with Guy - or with anyone, for that matter, maybe, but definitely not

“Tune World”? TUNE? World?????? I..I...Otisburg??? That’s all I can think. OTIS? Burg??? This makes me want to, I don’t know, devour my children or something. It makes me so AN-gry!

“...a wonderfully built piece which trusted the audience...”

I love Akira Ifukube’s Gojira theme. I never actually heard it (or saw Godzilla) until recently. More than anything, it reminds me of Michael Nyman’s scores for Peter Greenaway’s movies, which I have loved for many years (especially the score for ZOO). Is that weird? Especially starting at 1:08 in the YouTube clip

It’s the only one I have!

I had a roommate in the 80s who only would buy/sleep on dark, crazy-patterned sheets for that same reason.

Always.
