You absolutely do not have to have the clutch pedal in all the way before shifting.

I can’t imagine it will be successful. The feel of the clutch pedal is pretty much 99% of driving a stick. The actualinger shifting itself is cake compared to starting from a stand still. You’ll be successful in a racing game just flooring it and dumping the clutch, but that won’t work in the real world.
