Actually the Sledgehammer was pretty ingenious. They used the framerails as air intakes.
I just looked the stretch of road in question and a drop that severe would cause more accidents than it’s worth. It’s practically a 3 lane highway with plenty of traffic. Not some small town that happens to be on a major stretch of highway.
Hell I had a Crown Vic P71 before I got my Miata. I think that’s pretty Amercian. (yes I know the Crown Vic was built in Canada)

My mother and I were rear-ended by a 90 year old man doing 50mph in a Nissan Sentra that didn’t even attempt to stop at a red light. We both walked away completely fine. Hell even the car wasn’t even totaled. The NC is a seriously solid platform.
