“The Hellfire training missile contains an incomplete guidance section and has no operational seeker head, warhead, fusing system or rocket motor.”

Funny how so many people commenting ask why the US or their “allies” don’t do anything in response to this “military” expansion by China. I find it hilarious people are assuming things so far ahead of time, war mongering essentially. The fact is, Vietnam, Phillipeans, Taiwan, Malay etc have had islands with runways

I’m military, having served two tours in Iraq. I, like most of my fellow soldiers, have a love-hate view on the awards. The problem is the military’s application of awarding them. I can’t speak for the A.F., but I’ve literally heard senior leadership say, “We’ll need to down-grade this award, he doesn’t have enough

I’m of two minds on this.

I’m surprised that nobody has seemed to have brought up the environmental damage caused by this dredge and fill operation. Could not international support be gained in this manner? China literally destroyed square miles of coral reef to build these bases with no consequences.

Let’s not overplay this - the Straits of Hormuz are as narrow as 30 miles, with only six of those miles allotted to navigation. A carrier group will spread out to as much as 3 of those miles. 1,500 yards = 0.85 miles. That’s like being in an elevator when someone rips one, then claiming they farted on you.

Alright, let’s start guessing what HATE stands for.

When your job is killing people, “do as little as possible” sounds like great policy to me.

These types of incidents are known to work as something of a pressure-valve for keeping hardliners in the Iranian government and military satisfied, even while Iran has openly engaged in dialogue with the U.S. at the same time.

On the positive side Russia just took away the Iranian uranium stockpile.

Or checking to see if we keep our CIWS on auto during times of “peace”

I think the “release valve for hardliners” aspect is probably the right one. Its like buying a kid an ice cream cone to shut him up on a long trip. “Ok, you get to fire ONE rocket, ok? But remember, nowhere near the shit, and you HAVE to tell them you fired it and it was just an exercise, OK?!” “Weee!! Ok!”

Training, perhaps?

It amazes me how many people do not realize this. China doesn’t actually have the capability to invade Taiwan without going nuclear. They literally don’t have the ability to move that many troops and equipment.

Just FYI, the Tsar Bomba was actually a 100 megaton design. It was scaled back due to concerns about fallout. Which would have been astronomical.

Meh. If you look at that map, I think WWIII would have been a good idea in the 50s. Sure, it would have sucked to ‘live’ anywhere near Eastern Europe, but the rest of the world is nowhere near any of the nuke sites and except for a few years of atmospheric radiation, etc would have been something we could work

My mother is this crazy religious person who says the world is going to end look at all the terrorism and stuff going on. And I always respond mom you guys survived the cold war relax!

Cool, now I can see how accurate Arc Light was!
