That had nothing to do with turbulence.

I once had a pilot come on the intercom during some bad turbulence and say “Don’t worry folks, this plane can take a lot more than you can.”

I think people maybe more afraid of the plane breaking apart than being knocked down by the turbulence.

Fun fact: you might have to get your wife’s permission to get it done. Here in MA I had to get my (then) wife’s permission. This was ~20 years ago, things might be different now.

The US system is fundamentally based on a separation of powers and checks and balances, like those that exist between the branches of the Federal government. The separation and tension between the Federal and states’ governments is just another instance of this.
