I don't get why this is a big deal. This was guidelines on the UK government's website regarding Royal visits in the UK, not anything released in advance of the visit to the US. They made no announcements at all regarding any dress codes for the US visit. So... everyone made a big hoohaa about a rule that didn't even

I completely disagree with you, and I only despair that the Brits had to be the ones to say it. A decent suit to do your job in the company of heads of state is a reasonable burden.

"I gave Reign kudos after watching the episode because their closing credits included a screen that provided information and numbers for sexual assault hotlines., which was a GREAT move."

Um, it might be different for the US, but here that's kind of legally required. So no, someone doesn't get kudos for common

Seriously. People need to stop depicting rape of a woman as a way injure the man who loves/owns her.

Yeah, but in this case it seems pointless. Like it doesn't do anything for the plot or the character. Based on the interview excerpt it seems like the rape was punishment for Francis, for his past mistakes. Like it adds nothing to Mary's character or character development, nada. Making the basis for the rape scene

But it's absurd to object any time a rape is depicted on TV (which you guys seem too do pretty consistently) precisely because it is an altogether too common fact of life.

Is anyone finding this all so weird? Why are you guys working so hard to find some white hero? I am sure there are a lot of people that have made jokes about this as it has been out there for over a decade now. This desperate need to give Tina Fey some weird credit is some crazy white shit.

I guess we will see, but I doubt it.

Tell them that black people are subject to ongoing systemic racism and white supremacy in the U.S. And it is understandable for folks to be super angry about that.

Well it wasn't really confusing to me when that white kid called me a nigger in first grade so how about you take that seat.

If it has been reported about correctly on NPR then they have to prove that the officer took action because he was black. The burden is as always on the state so you usually need a smoking gun like a racial epithet or a history of racism.

The Federal probe is such a joke. It is to make people feel better. All they are allowed to get him on is violation of Civil Rights and they won't. That is a high bar of proof.

I get what you're saying, but it's nuts that you can't verbally defend yourself for fear of protesters turning into a mob. If that's all it takes to tip these people over into violence, then they're already a mob to begin with.

Fuck freedom of speech we have laws about indecent images and laws about harassment and your right to be an arsehole doesn't trample other people's right for you to leave them the fuck alone.

I can't describe how unfair it feels to have conservatives from another country (i.e. the US) dictate our domestic laws.

American religious assholes have been exporting their vile hatred for decades. The anti-gay legislation in Uganda has it's roots in American evangelicals "preaching" in that country.

Aaaaaand you've proven the point. Nobody said liberal white northerners are the entire problem, just that their self-aggrandizing vilification of other regions' white people doesn't do much good other than making them feel better about themselves. That "we're the non-racist ones" attitude does allow racism to continue

Don't even bother. He's got some serious white opinions he always wants to share on these post because his wife is black. Kara wrote "Stay Woke" as a title of a wonderful article about Ferguson and he (like so many) was like "Don't you mean stay wake? That's proper English."

I am definitely not the one missing the point here.

Ignorance knows no geographical boundaries. Bill O'Reilly is from New York.
