Hey! As a northerner living in the great state of NC...

To be fair, I’m in another city system now - and it is also genuinely rewarding at times. I was in a charter school previous to this, and it was rife with all the elitism and white privilege herein otherwise discussed.

When I was in Baltimore, the bar near my house would routinely give me my first drink free whenever I went.

It is kind of amazing what we (teachers) will do when others (students/parents/admin/random strangers) treat us like anything greater than pieces of human garbage.

This. People around me keep saying, “Isn’t this thing he did crazy and terrible?” as though they can’t believe it. I’ve officially hit the point of “nothing shocks me anymore.” It’s like he just keeps trying to top his lowest lows...

Eversion is awesome - and totally fine for middle school.

As a white, male teacher in a Title I urban school district in his mid-30s who considers himself pretty knowledgeable, I’m pretty ashamed I had never heard of any of these.
