I’m going to offer the same recommendation I share with most anybody who doesn’t know or particularly care about cars, but wants a nice, reliable smaller one:
300% the answer because this car fits the other overlooked requirement of not being too expensive to maintain. Mazda’s market is “premium not luxury”. I’ve got a 2016 6 that I love and will be sad when I have to replace it since Mazda doesn’t currently have a similar model, but I’ll save that for a future “What Car…
Seconded. I always recommend friends and family to check the Mazda option in every segment first before going to the usual Hondayota or Kiyundai
CPO Mazda 3 is the correct answer here. The very DEFINITION of “luxury-ish”. Even the turbo ones have decent fuel economy. The hatchbacks aren’t the EASIEST to park because those C-pillars are enormous, but that’s a small price to pay for such a complete package. Maintenance and repairs should be pretty reasonable…
Ford Puma.
Because Steve McQueen.
J-90 Land Cruiser Prado with the 1KZ diesel
Definitely one of the “won’t go back” crowd here. Currently have two Chevy Bolts and a gas Kia Sedona minivan. At present, the Kia sits most of the year under a car cover and with a battery tender 24/7 since it’s only used for the kind of stuff most people buy big honkin’ pickups, and maybe twice a year for a long…
I had a 2015 Tesla Model S and traded it in for a BMW 840xi GC. In Connecticut, the cold winters destroyed the Tesla’s range by about 40%. Also, we like to take road trips, and no matter what enthusiasts say, charging at superchargers absolutely sucks compared to filling your tank with gas.

Comment of the month.
A banger of a morning roundup, Owen.
Re: the E-Type coupe, it’s ok to admit when you’re wrong.
finally, a new 4Runner. ....eventually.
Did you even read the sentence you quoted?
Independent vehicles dependent on independent humans, dependent on getting paid by an independent non-auto company dependent on making autos that are independent.
After delaying a purchase for about 6 years, the (mouthful) Civic Hatchback Hybrid Sport Touring checks a lot of boxes. In Smurf blue. Reliable, hatchback, thrifty, quick, affordable, respectable. I could afford to spend more but I’d rather renovate my kitchen instead.
Kia K4, weirdly enough. I know it’s just another CVT econobox, but I think it looks pretty sharp, especially in wagon form. I know they won’t, but it’d be awesome if they made a full GT trim with a 5 speed and the 2.5 from the K5 GT.
None of them really. Absolutely nothing coming out next year would make me consider buying a new car. And the Golf R, the one car I was consider buying is going auto only, so that’s off the list as far as buying new goes.
These have to be made up callers. Who is actually taking car buying advise from a car salesman? I wouldn’t believe a word he says.
