On the TV show the parents & the kids should be teaming together to take down Jonah, so they’ve made the kids look more ridiculous by running away. It’s annoying.

This was a super sweet character episode and I LOVE that I have absolutely not a clue what’s going to happen next. Also, I’ve never been on Team Eleanor+Chidi as a romantic relationship until this ep - DAMN. Jason’s hell and how upset he was killed me. No bass drop is The Worst I agree.
Same, it was a very strong “wow, they are really dead” feeling that’s usually not quite like it was this ep.
I don’t get how you don’t worry it’s a scam/a crazy person/an abuser, etc. How do you get past this?
“Of all the things the show hasn’t fulfilled in the first season, the fact that they felt the need to bring all the romantic stuff to fruition that took forever to build in the comics is bizarre.” amen.
Yep, it was so unearned. Why pace the whole dang season like it’s table setting & simultaneously have everything romantic with the kids happen? It’s absurd.
What is Jonah continuing to provide to the PRIDE now that they care about him being alive? Why did they regenerate him? Does he have the blackmail set up to automatically release if he dies or something? I don’t get why the parents are still in his thrall. Am I forgetting something via being bored?
Yep, the pacing is maddening and I’m not exactly sure what the creators were going for here.
I’m assuming they’re running away in the S1 finale but damn, they’re taking their sweet boring time getting there. I actually thing they did a great job with the teen casting and characterization but the writing and plotting is horrific. Burning off my Runaways goodwill with each episode...
You don’t need additional material, it’s all pretty well explained in the movie. Luke had maybe 3 minutes of a BAD decision and it impacted everything from then on. He regrets it enormously which is why he’s never leaving the island and doesn’t. It’s very well done IMHO.
Best to go in cold, don’t even read this review. It has almost every tone imaginable in one film and the cast makes it work. Frances’ face is a work of art and Sam Rockwell’s role is so varied and conflicting. Lastly, Woody Harrelson is just tremendous.
I just don’t get the OTT adoration for indie films like this. It’s cute, it’s simple and the performances are great (Metcalf a standout) but it’s not superlative worthy as this review. I also knew almost every beat as it was coming so I would argue it is cliche in many ways. That’s not a bad thing, it’s like indie…
Does he hate it enough to be torture, though?
Answer: yes! *cries*
I sobbed during last week’s episode because it hit me really hard. I lost my Dad 3 years ago & I miss him so much. This episode was so REAL that I didn’t cry as much, it just brought back so many memories. I think anyone that has done the “house cleanup” after a loved one dies probably reacted the same. For those…
OMG Pace’s face at the fish heads song - note perfect.

Yes, the reveal that the “Pilgrim” was a kid got me good. Oh, Cameron.
I completely agree with your bold take. I care about ALL the characters on HACF and on MM all of them besides Peggy & Pete could’ve died in a fire and I’d have been like “oh well.”
I thought seeing the different styles was so cool. It was a simple plot but still had some great one liners, but seeing the different animation actually made the ep for me!
