I replaced Irfan View with this app, as it solves zooming way better. With resampling enabled, zooming via scroll wheel is impossible using IrfanView, but works fine on MaxView.

I thought "nice" at first, but since it's powered by Google, they still get all your data :(

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to encrypt the files before sending them off to dropbox?

I'm looking for just the opposite - a program that keeps windows from shutting down/going into standby.

For virtually 0 footprint I can recommend batch+sleep.exe

Here are some numbers to the discussion:

wtf? You keep the water running while soaping? I'd rather suggest getting a decent faucet that has two separate controls for water and temperature. Plus, it's easier to set it to the correct temperature everytime you shower. On the other hand this is Lifehacker and it's probably easier to install in older baths with a

@jsmorley: *cough*. Searchbar Autosizer to the rescue!

Are we done bragging about how superb my/your favorite browser is and why it's superior because of (insert feature here)?

In wonder if this could be used to prevent disconnects when disconnecting the ethernet jack with WLan on and connected to the same router. Although surfing works fine on an instant, all persistent connections seem to disconnect - i.e. Miranda reconnects, downloads fail if they're not resumeable.

I'm using the latest Firefox nightly and when I try to use the Flowplayer setting, the "Loading Flowplater…" message appears, Firefox goes to 50% CPU usage (due to DualCore) and nothing happens.

These two articles by Wladimir Palant make a great reading about the security of Adblock and the NoScript extension:

Looks promising although it doesn't seem to "fully" work with 3.0 nightlies. I checked "Center and Enlarge Video" and it does center it (moving the description down) but enlarging doesn't work for some reason. Manually editing the size with Firebug works fine though. The Error Console doesn't show anything related and

Although a classic on Lifehacker, not everyone may know about MusicBrainz. In short, it's a ginormus database that can identify music.

@JimmyCane: hmmm... I know how to rewrite say Capslock to represent CTRL, but I don't know how to embed key combinations into this. I'm afraid you'll need an external tool like AutoHotKey for this. I might be wrong, at least I've never heard of any other way to do this...

Advantage of this method is that you can basically switch two keyboard layouts on an instant without being specific to any app. For example I prefer the English layout because of the often used "program keys" like []{}"' etc. For situations like "oh, your PC is still running, may I check my bank account?" being able

@"document's": ah, now I get it. You can make it pretty hard for non-natives to decipher what you actually meant... the sentence now makes actually sense :), thanks for helping me out here :)

OK, this is going to sound fussy, but could you please decide for one way of pluralizing words and stay with it?

I've been using Scrollbar Anywhere (similar extension) for ages and it has replaced my scroll wheel almost completely (exception: ultra-long pages where grabbing and scrolling is too fast/imprecise). It allows for faster scrolling when having to scroll many lines compared to using the wheel. Useful e.g. when reading a

Actually, yes, we should be using VLC. However, it *is* a pain to use. Not as much as Gimp, but it still lacks some basic features. I'm not talking about proper working skins (yeah, maybe they can be made work properly some way.. I didn't figure it out yet and Google couldn't help out either) like one taskbar entry.
