I’d probably like the game, but there’s an unusual amount of incidences where animations, sound, timing of mechanics, etc. seem directly ripped or start crossing the line from inspired to plagiarized from other games. The multiplayer wasn’t too bad either... When you could actually get players. What really crippled the game was the completely broken matchmaking. Even at launch you would rarely ever get matched with a full squad of players, and you needed a full squad to actually do anything.

Based on analysis of the FFXVI trailer music, Soken is probably the composer for FFXVI. At the very least the trailer borrows heavily from pieces he’s written for FFXIV including “Torn From the Heavens,” a piece he’s cited as one of his favorites.

Is a Drow Ranger of Mielikki much better? You’re the hero of the story, and heroes often are fairly unique so why does it matter? The fun part of RPGs like this is having crazy backgrounds.

It’s worth noting that Yoshi-P said he couldn’t talk about any PS5 specific improvements. Which seems to indicate that they’re going to be improving FFXIV for PS5. I imagine we’ll find out more when they announce the next expansion.

....and FFXI while still profitable is nowhere near as big as it once was while FFXIV is still growing and far larger than FFXI ever was at its peak. For them to cut off story content while the game has yet to peak would be incredibly short sighted and stupid.

Eh, it’s the final chapter in the Ascian storyline. Considering that FFXIV subscriptions have continued on an upward trajectory with each expansion, it would be a pretty damn stupid thing to just end FFXIV on the next expansion.

I don’t know of a tech company that hasn’t been impacted by the move to working from home. Square-Enix seems to have handled it better than most given the global nature of FFXIV’s releases. So in this case, I don’t think being a Japanese company has anything to do with it.

In away it's been a bastion? Japan has been on the forefront of a lot of CGI advances, particularly around making 3D look 2D. This is especially true if ongoing research into applications of style transfer algorithms.

Not really, there’s a lot of mitigating factors here why some games have higher or lower tickrates. In Apex Legends’ case, ignoring anti-cheat shenanigans, the game is fairly simple compared to something like Apex Legends or Battlefield.

I love Teferi as a character, I just really wish his cards weren’t generally unfun to play against.

That said, the new Teferi, while being strong may not actually be broken. Plus that art is bonkers. I want a borderless version of it stat.
