So I was going to come here and joke about Kancolle, but seems like I was too late.
And Hideaki Anno!
It's in the title, Super Mario World.
No argument about AoT already? I'm disappointed.
Anime budgets are tiny compared with Western cartoons, so they have to get away with cutting corners wherever they can. They'll often emphasise looking pretty (backgrounds etc) over actual animation because it's cheaper.
Legend of the Overfiend was one of the best selling anime in the UK, so this wouldn't surprise me.
There's a couple of reasons.
Nowadays just about all anime can be found streaming legally, either for free, or for a minimal fee ($60 a year).
You'll be happy to know that after 8 years, they made a Mushi-shi season 2. So that should be top of your list.
I've only managed to watch up to ep 6, since I was waiting on uncensored versions, then missed the initial showing of 7+. Haven't read the manga so can't compare.
That wasn't CR's choice, that's how it was broadcast in Japan too. They did uncensored broadcasts a few weeks later (so the first 3 eps for example), which CR followed suit on. They were only up for a weekend at a time though.
Somewhere in the range of 150 shows I'd estimate.
I'd recommend Time of Eve for Yoshiura, I think it's his best work.
They're obviously all really 300 years old!
Makoto Shinkai, Mamoru Hosoda, Maasaki Yuasa and Yasuhiro Yoshiura?
The religious imagery was mostly in there because it looked cool.
