The trailer & promo material seem to indicate it’s a remake / re-adaptation, and will likely cover material not in the original series. It seems likely that at least part will be a retelling of the older material, since the other traveller and his dog appeared in that.

Yeah, the first 2 or so episodes where it just throws everyone at you can be a bit of a struggle to work out what’s going on. Definitely benefits from follow up watches.
