"Anime fan" would probably work. To anyone outside of anime you'd be an Otaku anyway, regardless of how much you enjoyed / watched.

With 40 odd shows per season now, and the fact that it's those very shows that get thrown around and talked about all over the internet, is it really any surprise it's hard for people to avoid them? Or think that all anime is like them?

The big eyes and stupid stories have always been around, and are never going away. As much as people clamour for intelligent stories etc, it's not what people are willing to buy.

I've done the kid's version with my fiancee's nephew (~6 years old), where they have the first character on the corner to help you. Don't quite do the flinging across the room like in the anime (or real tournament games).

Would depend on the age group. Older people you'd get Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) and stuff like that. Quite young and you'd get Naruto.
