That was my reaction as well - Sucker Punch potentially sharing a portion of the Benson theme song melody is HARDLY the slam-dunk case the lawyer feared.

Agreed - it’s a worthy experiment. In original order, Noe wants you to consider what could POSSIBLY EVER justify that extremely violent attack at the club, and then once you’ve seen the horrifying rape and, eventually, the couple in bliss, whether the end justified the means. Viewed the other way, the consideration is

Same. As horrifying as the rape scene is, that act of violence is visceral and disgusting and troubling. And that it comes so early in the movie makes it even more shocking.

And the bad guys literally announced their intent! One of the guys yells to Joel during the standoff that if Joel and Ellie just give them their stuff they will let them go unharmed.

- Bill’s letter and the way Ellie read it was superb. The “hehehehehe” made me laugh out loud.

Agreed.  As well as her, perhaps, relieving the misery for this creature that used to be human.

Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars (out of 4) in his original review and lavished it with praise

I don’t think you’re right about that.  Like, at all

Are there people who don’t think it’s good? It’s a straight up classic and Stone’s performance is one of my favorite top 5 performances of all time. Incredible.

I’m truly impressed at how many bad faith arguments you can pack into one comment.  Troll Level: Expert!

Rockville festival is LOADED

I must be getting old (I am).  Those festival lineups are just not doing it for me.  They all feel like they try to cater to everyone and, as a consequence, they cater to no one.

Agreed on both counts.  Brad Dourif is SO wildly good in that movie.  What a performance.

I just wanted to say that this is one of the most well written reviews I’ve read on this site in quite some time.  Thanks Leigh!  Looking forward to this

Same for me.  9th grade.  I went to high school in FL.  Got the same pre-film lecture (it didn’t work).

Diamonds are Basic

Knock at the Cabin is a REALLY terrible name. Why not just give it the same name as the book it is based on?

yes and yes.  Both quite excellent films

Wouldn’t you agree that you both can be right? It is a redemption arc of sorts, yes, but also not a great one? AKA isn’t wrong in that rather than doing the hard work, Dom is simply paying for a fix by giving Albie $50k in exchange for a good word with his wife. And isn’t that what the last scene in the airport is
