what the fuck are you going on about?
Sorry to see I’m Thinking of Ending Things and Palm Springs shut out altogether. Loved those two films last year. Mank was super dull. I guess that’s just the Academy being the Academy.
I’m not inclined to put Lucy Dacus’ music on in my house or car, BUT I had the privilege of catching her live opening up for Foals (maybe 5 years ago now, yikes?!) and she was mesmerizing. Really, really great.
This is me commenting two years later but wondering this: when Villanelle’s American accent “slipped,” it didn’t slip to Jodie Comer’s British accent but rather to V’s in-show Russian accent. I felt like it was deliberate by V the character, maybe? She’s naughty and she’s not afraid of being pegged as something else?
Good stuff, Chris. If I may offer my own take: Plemon’s performance in last year’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things was, in my view, the best role of his career, and the second best acting performance of 2020. Second, of course, to his own co-star Jessie Buckley’s performance in the same film. (can you tell I loved that…

The board game sequence is a flat-out comedy clinic. It’s perfect. I remember screaming in laughter in the theater.
(apologies for my atrocious grammar)

By releasing it as a 4-hour extravaganza replete with “chapters,” he is certainly daring them to do so.
“Sand Cake is about a dad tricking his son my making a cake out of sand that he’s going to make his son eat.”
you were so wrong! ;)
This album is just plain excellent. Nice to see the boys cranking out some great tunes again.
“The prequels at least had some great designs in ships, costumes and settings like the city of Theed and the palace on Naboo, our first look at Coruscant, Mustafar, Utapau, etc.”
What I’ve heard (anecdotally) is that in the old days in Florida, longleaf pine was abundant. Heart pine floors were considered “cheap” flooring and thus it wasn’t a big deal to tile (or carpet) over them.
This ALL DAY. Those episodes are just the worst! And there are plenty of them.
To be fair, it does happen in real life on occasion. Our house was built in 1941 and desperately needed a kitchen reno. We pulled out the kitchen tile fully believing we would be laying down another tile, but lo and behold underneath we found original Heart Pine floors. We sanded those down rather than putting new…
