I think they were clearly exaggerating about the GTS. On Laguna Seca the GTS is about half a second a lap slower than the previous ACR, but the TA managed to be quicker. I think high 6:50s is possible with the new ACR on the Ring, it might beat the 918 Spyder but that aero drag would be hurting it on the really long

It’s still got a relatively heavy steel frame too, and a manual transmission, no turbos or hybrid, no torque vectoring electronic diffs or AWD, and because the aero doesn’t retract like the active stuff it really takes a hit on top speed to get that downforce. Yet it just casually goes out and claims a dozen track

I guess if where you live has a lot of hills to climb or your commute is almost entirely going 90 mph on an arrow straight highway, the Miata really won’t be the best for the job. I believe the NA Miatas like yours probably didn’t have much top end, but the newer ones probably make better use of their redlines.

It’s a sports car, but it’s not a muscle car or pony car. Heck, it’s not even really a performance car since numbers matter so little. Is drag racing every car that pulls up next to you that important? I’d say the Miata is just as powerful as it needs to be, and it says something that many people who have driven both

Damn. Maybe for the sake of humanity’s nipples I must have accidentally made the Nurple 1.4 times less than a foot pound, not greater. Think of how much nipple abuse would be spared if they were only subject to 0.71 ft-lb of twist rather than a full 1.4!

I said size, not weight. And I said “like”, that gives me a tolerance of + or - 10%, totally!

No, it’s 597 rwNrp (rear-wheel Nurples)

The Z06 is over 3500lb (nearly 3600lb for the convertible), and that really is only ~150lb more than a V8 Camaro. Base C7s weigh 3300, I think the Z51 pack with the heavier magnetic shocks and some other performance parts weighs around 3400 depending on trim options.

Horsepower is torque expressed in a more usable and consistent quantity that is easier to correlate to performance and stays constant throughout the gearing reduction of a transmission (minus friction losses, obviously). A car’s engine could make 1000lbft at a 3000 rpm redline (sounds more like a tuned diesel truck),

Ehh the Corvette still exists as the better sports car of the two, the Camaro works great for what it is considering it offers very close to Corvette performance for nearly $20k less and with (somewhat usable) rear seats too. It doesn’t make much sense for the Camaro to get much lighter than it is right now without

If only there was a way of making torque while still going fast so that it’s actually usable in a race. Oh wait, that’s what power is!

It’s already dropped to like 85% the size it was previously, and I think if you consider the base level trims and engines it’s dropped close to 350lb (but only ~200lb V8 vs V8). It’s got a ridiculous beltline and is still probably as hard to see out of as the older model though, but weight and size definitely took a

Yeah but not many people buy cars like the S-class in comparison to diesel pickups and only a couple percent (at most) of S-class and other “big” Benz buyers would ever get the AMG V12s with the fuel economy and torque of a battleship, so despite high emissions/fuel use per vehicle their total effect is a drop in the

All that is true for the original NSX in the 90s-early 2000s, but I don’t think it’s much the case for the new one. In 2015 all supercars pretty much are comfortable, ergonomic, and can be driven by pretty much anyone who can afford them. Will they all last 15 years on minimal maintenance? Probably not, but I don’t

It’s still ugly. It’s just ugly for good reason.

I guess you’ve clearly gone mad if you think cars in the same company as the P1 and LaFerrari are conventional and boring just because they feature (fucking awesome) gas engines in addition to electric. There is nothing out of this world about electric cars either, they just have the range, longevity, and recharge

A Miata qualifies as a sports car even though 1st gen ones take like 10 seconds to hit 60. Straight line speed has not much to do with being a sports car.

If they wanted 800hp electric motors and enough battery to actually sustain that output for a reasonable amount of time, it would end up adding way more than the weight of the gas engine. Personally I think a “regular” hybrid or gas-only powered supercar is a lot better than being a 4000+lb straight line EV rocket

That engine would be a lot of fun...if it were in a 1 series or Mini Cooper JCW. It’s kinda pathetic being in a $140k supercar, even if it can temporarily make 360hp with battery assist until it runs out of juice. Heck, maybe if it didn’t have the weight of the batteries, with 260hp and a carbon fiber frame it might

The i8 doesn’t exactly have a Prius drivetrain, but c’mon it does reek of being a bit of a miserly economy car compared to the 918/P1/etc. It’s got the same electric motor as what BMW sticks into the frumpy little i3, and it’s not combining electricity with a powerful engine worthy of a $140k sticker but to a tiny,
