Exactly this. Elon was brilliant at exactly 2 things - buying into companies at the right time and being an excellent salesman. Now that it’s been revealed that he’s an idiot, he can’t be a great salesman anymore, and the Twitter buy really makes it seem like he’s not so great at buying in at the right time anymore…

but hes not a brilliant engineer.  hes just a carnival barker.  spacex is thriving in spite of elon. and teslas engineers cant stand him.  hes not popular here in austin and people only go there to have it on their resume and they start looking at other places immediately. 

Hubris, while it’s obvious to almost everyone, it’s hubris that’s caused this. Say what you want about Elon, I think he’s a brilliant engineer. Everyone said Tesla wouldn’t succeed, but it did.
