The movie needs to sell us on Laureline being the capable badass, as Valerian’s supposed to be a well trained meathead who tends to run into things without a plan. The trailer does suggest that we’ll have a cheerful, sassy Laureline, which is a relief.

Valerian in the comics is fairly young — late twenties, i think, when he starts out. And Laureline, when she’s rescued from 14th Century France, is 17 or 18. In the animated series, Valerian is set up as a rookie time agent, and is closer to Laureline’s age.

If this film is in keeping with any of the original graphic albums, it’s going to be wonderfully goofy.
