This is actually super cool, and a much better implementation than all of the super high-end iPad Pro competitors powered by Android.

Gatekeeping? Not considering an overpriced panel art is not the nefarious activity that you think it is.
Could this also be a loss of duplicate subscribers who we’re invested in both HBO Max AND Discovery Plus? There’s no reason to pay for both any longer.
Displaying today’s news is not art. It’s a medium, the same way your phone, computer, or print newspaper is a medium for the news.
Or, you know... just pick up a real newspaper that you can have delivered to your doorstep each morning :)
Agree about many better uses for an OLED panel. The only thing I am more hard pressed to think about is the price of this stupid mountable e-ink newspaper.
For that price, just get an OLED and mount it vertically with a news app running on a Chromecast with GTV or some other thumb drive sized work station.
That explicitly why I mentioned box sets in my original reply... “We couldn’t binge older content or shows we’d previously overlooked unless we had box sets or elected to DVR content to watch later.”
Are you familiar with how OTA and cable television works? Re-runs generally aren’t broadcast back-to-back-to-back, so you’re still at the mercy of the programming schedule. We didn’t have streaming in 2007, so it was difficult to binge any content regardless if it was new or re-runs.
Why is it so slow? Too much traffic or is there some other layers in there slowing things down?
I think it’s a balance that we didn’t have during the last writer’s strike. We couldn’t binge older content or shows we’d previously overlooked unless we had box sets or elected to DVR content to watch later. Streaming really does alleviate the pain, but totally agree that there are always going to be current shows…
The guy who keeps insisting the McDonalds let him order a Mountain Dew lol
Order one online or stop in an Apple Store.
No, “we” do not know this. It may change hands, but the product isn’t going anywhere.
It’s much more about the unified experience you get on the Google TV surface. YouTube is just a mean’s subscription management the same way Play Store is where you buy your movies, shows, music, etc.
Because people don’t want to sign up for 20+ services? It’s easier to control them all from one master dashboard of sorts.
A lot of these were limited engagements that no longer accept bookings.
8 family members? YIKES!
They would probably just release a wired to wireless adaptor given the existing install base. There are some wonky third party dongles that work pretty well.
I wouldn’t say it helps those who work from home or don’t have kids either. Restrictions don’t help anyone if we’re going to admit that this is here to stay.
