I respectfully disagree with the premise of this well written article. Open world games are not broken. The “map game” format is just popular because it works, and so there have been a lot of these games. Some are executed well and some are executed badly, as is the case when many developers imitate a style of game.

It makes me feel better to know that I was not the only one to struggle there! It did feel really amazing to finally conquer that level, but I am not sure it was worth the angst to get there.

Jeff, I fear that you are right. And that fact says a lot about why there is such a big political divide in this country that feels like it cannot be bridged.
