I think you're looking at this the wrong way. Sure, usually for us plebes adding options means adding features. For these cars I'm pretty sure you pay more to get less.

My first car was a '94 Caprice 9C1, so it had the 5.7 LT1 and a posi rear diff. I got my license in January, in Chicago. With a set of Blizzaks it was pretty damn good in those Chicago winters. I still miss that car on occasion.
