The other thing that comes into play is that the camera phone sensor could be "pushing" the exposure to compensate for the background, causing under exposure and noise making it brown/gold while fading the blue to become pale.

The gold I can understand the argument saying its brown - it's one of the closest colors (golden brown 153, 101, 21). Anybody calling the white another color needs to understand reflection on pearl material, ask wedding photographers on that one.

You need to bring white balance into play here. The backlighting throws off the sensor in whatever camera phone this was taken with, it's not as simple as just using a color picker to figure out the values.
