So... people that demonstrate a history of one riskier behavior also seem to also do other riskier things?

I’d suspect it’s either the base price alone, or the lack of union labor for the manufacturing.

It’s also that EVs throw the $/hp equation out the window. Before you had to spend enormous effort engineering to get to 500, 600, let alone 1000 hp. Now we have a $55k Kia that produces 570+hp. Every manufacturer can manufacture a 1000hp car now so power exclusivity is gone. But removing HP out of the equation will

Plenty of ferries. The ferry system is pretty great and it wouldn’t be a stretch to deploy extra boats for a weekend that terminated in Manhattan and Brooklyn. And also how great would it be to arrive at an F1 event by boat? It’d be a pretty awesome experience.

My hot take: Subaru should take a Ford F150 approach and just electrify the Outback or Forester. That thing would sell like crazy.

I sympathize with Ford a bit. I would bet money that there’s some report floating around Deerborn that shows that Ford ends up making more money w/o a dealer network, but it’s too expensive to get the network replaced quickly. Think about how many “startups” are just direct to consumer versions of stuff we’ve been

Every car buyer to a dealer:

/s? She’s charged w/ second degree murder now... not manslaughter.

I think the F150 Lightning and Maverick sales are going to be driven by a huge number of first time truck buyers. They’ve already identified this w/ Maverick reservations and I bet the same goes for F15o. You’re not going to convert the guy towing his boat 500 miles round trip on the weekend to give up his ICE, but

Amazon no doubt has a ton of outs on their purchasing agreement. Airlines routinely tear up their purchasing agreements with Boeing or Airbus if issues come up and I imagine it’s not that dissimilar.

Another way to think about it though is that it’s a super smart hedge on Ford’s part. As a major shareholder and board seat holder, they can be privy to a lot of information to ensure they stay relevant, all the while, they don’t have to take a lot of the risks and let Rivian do things and see if the market follows.

And it’s not binary either. Families that somehow can’t realize the full tax benefit (and bought a qualifying EV) would then reduce their tax burden to 0.

Def feels like this is really just a hot take. “The brakes are bigger.” comment makes me raise an eyebrow, as you definitely benefit from using brakes less due to regenerative braking... so I’m not sure how quant this all is. EVs also benefit from simpler maintenance schedules.

My hot take? I think EVs are probably

While that may be true, doesn’t an ICE car just continue to increase it’s carbon footprint over time? So ultimately isn’t there a net benefit in utilizing EVs instead of gasoline vehicles, or am I missing something?

507 was the inspiration for the Z07 concept which led to the Z8. Just drop dead gorgeous... makes you wonder what the hell happened at BMW. I feel like a plastic surgeon got in the design group and is injecting everything w/ fillers and weird doodads these days. They look like caricatures of cars to me at this point.

I never thought I’d miss Chris Bangle...

I have to think Ford’s investment in Rivian is not just a whim and they’ve committed to leveraging Rivian’s technology at some point. I can see them holding back in terms of timing so as not to cannibalize Rivian’s launch (as a major investor).

The White House was built by slaves.

But that doesn’t change the fact that the semiotics carry cultural bias in today’s society. Experts explicitly uses this dichotomy to test for racial bias:

Is there an actual list published somewhere? I’d like to bring these to my organization.
