You forgot to mention the Topp’s Star Wars card

It really bothers me that, both in the movie and now in the comics, they have to make her some smokin’ hot sexy woman.

Oh, you were at that Trump rally too!??? Cool!

I don’t see how you get that from this story. Oprah is herself a survivor of sexual abuse, and has dedicated a lot of time and resources toward supporting victims of sex crimes. Andrews says she reached out to Oprah specifically because of this — this isn’t an interview Oprah went looking for. It was the least shitty

So as a follow up: What do you suppose made Deadpool a runaway success?

I only ask because most reviews of the film, while calling it a lot of fun weren’t heralding it as a massive, breakout success or anything, just that it more or less got its premise and ran with it. The general consensus I got from people I trust

you’re a bundle of fun.

the Tyrannosaurus Rex

The EU’s ending, after like 50 books, manages to be much kinder to these characters than The Force Awakens does in just two hours.

Why is this surprising? This is kind of JJ’s MMO.

Doesn’t Maz say that it’s Luke’s light saber and say that she’ll explain how she got it at another time? Or does she tell that to someone else? Suffice it to say that it did not strike me at the time as some kind of feminist victory. Maz barely registers as female, which is why the made sure to toss that “boyfriend”

Speaking of that light saber-induced flashback, this is the scene that people are pointing to as evidence that TFA passes the Bechdel test with “flying colors”, but don’t Maz and Rey talk about Luke in that scene? (Not to mention the fact that they are taking turns holding the most phallic weapon in the galaxy)

I disagree that Kylo is Rey’s brother. I think they are cousins. Leia and Han had no problem talking about their son, and if they had twins, they definitely would have brought it up.

It was a criminal under-utilization of von Sydow.

How would the map be in the lightsaber? He lost that in Empire Strikes back. Some 35 years ago in the timeline.

“Leia never met him and Han didn’t like him.”

I didn’t like it. I saw the movie slightly buzzed, and there were still a lot of things that pulled me out of the experience.

Guys, even Rob Bricken liked it!!!!!

I really don’t see much room for commentary on women’s success here, though, accidental or otherwise. It’s more about how social media and presenting an idealized image of our lives has become so all-consuming.

You may mean 1930s or 1940s posters.
