Surprised you didn’t put the puns in the title.

I already admitted I was wrong in thinking this site was hosting old NES Roms I didn’t realize they were hosting pirated recent material. I’ve never pirated anything but I have downloaded Roms I used to own on NES back in the day when there was no way to play or purchase NES games ie. GameCube Era circa early 2000s…
She shouldn’t have to respond to this. It’s very likely she had zero awareness of the organization’s racist past when this happened (twenty goddamn years ago); she shouldn’t have to apologize for something she had no knowledge of.
Oh man, you didn’t check in to see how this insane stretch of a nothing-burger was getting roasted over at The Root? Cause it’s getting no traction there, and it feels like their readership should know.
“At that age [19], teenagers are mature enough to know what they’re being part of.”
“I looked the group up on Altavista AND Dogpile, and all I found was their address and phone number.”
“Sorry! I should have asked Jeeves about it!” -Ellie Kemper
So she entered a pageant and/or attended some weird debutante event. Is there any indication that she was aware it had a racist history? It may be hard for some on here to believe, but googling the damn thing wasn’t an option in 1999.
+1 for “dry snitching”.
Okay okay I should have read more before posting after 4 beers. I thought this was a site hosting old NES Roms which I see now its more than that. I’m wrong on this one.
There’s really not much of anything here. The headline and the beginning of the story made it sound like Erin from The Office was burning crosses and shit. Nope, she attended some corny debutante ball thing that has a racist past. Most of the US has a racist past.
Lol, what?
Look, if we start doing “Famous person took part in institution that turned out to be hella racist” takes we’re going to be here forever because, spoiler alert, most white institutions in America are hella racist.
Am I missing something? I see no connection other than the origins of the festival or party or whatever that would tie her to KKK leanings. If dumbass Black people wanted to join that bullshit, that’s of course their choice but I don’t see where she was personally connected to the KKK or even racism. I also think it’s…
There are sites like archive.org where people upload collections of ROMs because they want to preserve and share them there. So that blows this whole "but he needed to be able to afford to run the website" argument I keep seeing out of the water.
This guy made the decision to steal, upload and sell access to games he had no hand in creating for no other reason than to profit off the work of others.
It sounds like his full-time job was taking other people’s work and selling it for his own profit. This wasn’t even a case of operating an archive to access materials no longer in print. As the screenshot shows, the most popular roms and downloads on the page were mostly same-year releases.
those are good reasons to NOT support them financially, but you’re just a hypocrite and a fake anarchist if you say “fuck ‘em” as an excuse to want to use their products. want to send a message to Blizzard? don’t buy or use their product, dumbass, but don’t talk about how they’re a dumpster fire as you excuse ppl…
Literally hacking the game in it’s alpha stage to allow anyone access and free reign of the game despite constraints Blizzard wants to keep in place, and people think this is ok? Insanity in these comments.
i think this ridiculous pearl-clutching attitude is unique to gaming, but i might be wrong and i’d love other examples. why in the WORLD would you not only not expect, but be furious when they respond litigiously, a company to protect their IP?
