I agree! Sometimes, jokes make fun of the jokes themselves. For example, I've made jokes that make fun of victim blaming, or make fun of jokes about rape. It can be done, but it definitely depends on context, the person, tone, and your audience.

Courtney Cox's "starter" house is my dream home. Sigh... It needs some better paint and some *color* on the inside, but, ohmygoodness it is so pretty on the outside.
I had the exact same thought. But then, being homeless should get her a good amount of financial aid, especially at the fancier private schools.
Wait. People actually have that kind of perfect eye definition, glossy lips, and super smooth skin with no makeup? Maybe I'm skeptical because I'm blond and would have to use a good amount of eyeliner (above the eye) and eyeshadow (under the eye in this picture) to get that much eye definition. However, are you sure…
You're not the only one at all. And, The Crucible was mentioned in the article. :)
I don't get all the hate for Rihanna. I just feel so, so bad for her.
Sex selective abortion is a huge issue in many places around the world (China, India, Pakistan, Korea, much of Eastern Europe, and it's spreading), but not hugely so in Canada. There are issues in Asian-Canadian and Asian-American communities with sex selective abortion for second or third children, but it's still…
Individual gender selection is iffy, but passable, on an individual level. There's an issue with saying that one gender is worth more than the other, or that if you pick on sex then you're also selecting for gender traits, when sex and gender and especially personality aren't necessarily related. Still, to each…
I haven't seen the show, but I am partway through the third book. No spoilers, but let me say, the Danaerys plot is *awesome*. She's one of my favorites, and if the show is true to the book, then any race issues you're anticipating should go away very quickly.
...Oops.
I'm watching the Pittsburgh vs. Denver football game right now, and can't decide whom I hate more! As a DC-er, I hate Pittsburgh. Plus, they have Roethlisberger as their quarterback. However, Denver has Tim Tebow. Grrr. Decisions, decisions.
The Notebook:
That's exactly the right way to post about these things. People want to hear about milestones, about interesting or unusual things, and they want to cheer you on when you accomplish something. They don't want to hear every day about every single minute of working towards that goal.
I'm just out of high school and into college myself. The whole "die gingers die" thing seems to have missed me by two or three years. I see jokes about it when my peers, along the lines of "isn't it so funny that some people actually think this way so I'm going to make the joke to mock the joke", and actual insults…
Wait. Isn't this study years old? I swear I read the exact same study, with the exact same results, in the book NurtureShock. It was published a few years ago, so the research they cited must be even older.
Do you believe it's possible to ask a person questions about a group they belong to and you don't without being offensive? For example, I have a friend who's a Christian Scientist. We once had a long conversation about her beliefs and her religious community, and were respectful all around. I've had conversations…
I just wanted to say that I laughed out loud about your volume and curl comment. Because, it is impossible for me to add any volume to my hair. In fact, when I was little, my hair was so fine that I couldn't even wear a ponytail or clips because everything would fall out within the hour. At 19, I still don't know…
Seconding the other response! I love red hair. In fact, I want to dye my blond hair strawberry. I'm so sorry that people are assholes.
My two cents inn regards to the hair debate:
Why are the in-laws saying they bought her? The dowry is paid *to* them. The bride's family pays for the groom's family to take their daughter off their hands. The dowry system is a factor in why sons are wanted so much more than daughters. Gah. Anger.
