It's theoretically supposed to be set in the same universe, though I imagine the cross-network logistics will make crossovers more of a rarity, if not impossible.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me "Oh, you watch a lot of tv. you should watch The Following, it's really good!", I'd be able to buy my own island.

"I would struggle to think of a network show in the last five years that could stand up against Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Rectify, Fargo, etc."

Breach and Damages would like a word with you.

Yeah, it looks like an earlier draft of the article.

Li'l Sebastian and Tupac both demanded too much money, and an appearance fee.

In arthouse, that ground's covered, but there is a noticeable lack of those kinds of movies coming out of big studios lately. Stuff like Grand Piano or Happy Christmas fits pretty neatly in there, but both are clearly more

From what I understand, it's been mismarketed (like The Grey was) to appeal to Neeson's Taken fans. It's more of a noir, which I think is definitely a category for grown-ups.
But you can then replace it with Whiplash or Foxcatcher, both of which are also aimed at adults, aren't they?

"it is more and more rare to see a mainstream movie for an adult audience that isn't part of a franchise or related to nostalgia."
