Note: Just because stores and advertisements display them doesn't necessarily mean that people scan them. The popularity _could_ be all one-sided.

"clark kent was superman" What?!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

As others in the thread have mentioned, melting doesn't help much. Dissolving is good because few people would think that a couple of containers of caustic liquid actually contain metal medals.

You can have a setting designed from scratch, but any competent jeweler will have a catalog book full of stock empty settings. Order the one you like, sized to fit the finger and the stone.

I am quite fond of the look of emeralds, but they are a bit soft to put in rings - likely to get scratched up as you bash your hands into things. I had an emerald Claddagh ring. I try to ignore the scratches in the face of the gem.

Snag it, bag it, and tag it!

I guess it's just the automatic version of "Get off my lawn!"

I am not terribly fond of articles that mock my motivation and get it completely wrong.

I need one more thing - dimmer compatible. Every light in my house is on X-10 automation, so every light is run through a dimmer. Most CFLs are not usable with dimmers, and that includes all of the cheap CFLs. You need to pay upwards of $15 per lamp to get dimmer compatibility. :-(

It's probably not a good idea to generalize about the color temperature of CFLs. CFLs are available with various different color temperatures. Personally, I prefer the "daylight" ones. My girlfriend likes the "warm white".

Sounds like James Blish's They Shall Have Stars (1956), first in the Cities In Flight series.

Badgers?! We don need no steenkin' badgers!

Indeed! I have numerous Airport Express units scattered around the house. Each one is connected to relatively inexpensive powered speakers. I get my tunes in the bedroom, kitchen, livingroom, garage, and back porch. And none of those cost $400!

Has a nice ring to it. Like the title of a best-seller - "You can't walk far in frozen pants"

"It's not like we pick laundry detergent for its antimicrobial properties anyway... "

I don't think that the "Political advertisement" entries are a good match. "Edelman for Council" is a simple statement.

I'll buy that for a dollar!

I am stunned! This evocative piece is deeply symbolic of man's inhumanity to man!

I agree with scarbrtj that Windows Home Server is a good choice. The WHS box sits on your network and backs up every computer in the house in the middle of the night. It does full backups and incrementals, and can use a full backup to restore a computer that was completely nuked. Hardware requirements are fairly light

I agree with your premise, but your example is backwards. IF i recall properly, A Sound of Thunder used levitated walkways to keep from making significant changes. Little things like breathing the air might well "create tiny ripples that quickly fade out, leaving a net change of near zero". But stepping on the
