@Hello Mister Walrus: In operation, the black saddle area is covered by a brown leather seat. You can see the leather in the next-to-last photo. Looks like it is held on by the buckles seen in other photos.

@Adamotron: It's not proprietary. It appears compatible with ordinary phones. It just has a microphone at the bottom of the hole that functions if 'phones are not plugged in.
