The astronaut in the book that is one of the two main protagonists is a woman, so it seems more likely that Felicity Jones will be the astronaut. Clooney could be the scientist.

It would be a lot harder to adapt than The Troop. Might be better for a mini-series.

What about The Bourne Supremacy? That’s probably the best of the Bourne films, and I recall enjoying the book as well.
