The problem isn’t the automakers. The problem is the consumers. They refuse to buy on the basis of need vs. want. I own a Bolt. It’s a great car. They don’t sell well because the idiot car buyer can’t get beyond “duuuuuhhhh, I need big ass thing to haul my groceries in and maybe tow twice in my life.”  Automakers

I want that Daihatsu.  I’d TOTALLY drive that thing everywhere and be the absolute center of attention at all cars and coffee gatherings.

Well, the BMW M2 doesn’t have the walrus face at least. Leave it to Hyundai to release a modern looking version of the 6000SUX from the real original 1980's Robocop under the name of the Ioniq 6. Not necessarily a bad thing, but that’s the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that slide.

Am I the only one that is disappointed that this isn’t another “Florida Man” story?

Is the carmaker responsible for the credit card reader, cable cooling pumps, contactors, relays, transformers contained within the charging station, or is it the manufacturer of the charging station?  Pull up any one of the EV channels on youtube.  They are all full of content regarding the repeated failure of

Forums for the Bolt and LEAF are not chock full of “my HV battery failed, what do I do now threads. I don’t have an issue with being harsh on the infotainment. I do have an issue with the pass they give their darling children car makers over the rest.

To be fair, the battery failure issue with the LEAF was in the early models. They have substantially improved battery chemistry where they aren’t deteriorating nearly as quickly. Still, it’s a massive middle finger to the customers that they’re still a passive air cooled battery. This, along with that obsolete CHAdeMO

For $25 I’ll let the stealership rotate mine while I monch on their donuts and coffee wandering around the showroom looking at the shiny new things.

This

LOL I wouldn’t be surprised.  It’s kinda hard to have a working rear wiper when it doesn’t exist.

That’s the thing. Charging problems are 99.9% on the charging station. There is a handshake that goes on between the car and the EVSE at the station.  The car will give the exact same info to the EVSE.  Companies like Electrify America are infamous for their massive widespread problems with starting charging sessions

There is the adage of the more you over complicate the plumbing, the easier it is to stop it up. CR has admitted that they are particularly hard on manufacturers infotainment systems (except for the two automakers they’re particularly biased towards). There has been this massive push to make everything a menu button

Ask any tanker driver.  Your liquid load is constantly shifting according to how physics is acting on your truck.  I distinctly remember an article where a trainer of a tanker truck had his student hammer on the brakes at low speed on the truck.  There was a short delay, and the whole truck lurched forward after it

Nothing about this truck compells me to want to get rid of my 2015 Colorado Z71 Trail Boss. I’m not so keen on the turbo only engine, and the price on the trims I’d be interested in.  Ouch.

It didn’t help any that it was wholly noncompetitive with everything else on the market. No AWD, no Android Auto or Apple Carplay, The backup camera was little more than a tiny useless box in the rearview mirror. Put it up with anything else from every other automaker that would give you an AWD crossover with proper

I would say no.  DCFC stations aren’t going to have J-1772 plugs as there is no need to quick charge a hybrid.

Yeah, I almost laughed at the comment of people not wanting to use a card. I mean..... you have to use a card at a gas pump, right? What’s the difference? Oh yeah, it’s another “reason” to tout how they’re “never gonna buy an EV because of an increasingly weak excuse damnit.”

Shell bought Greenlots, so it’s happening.  Also Sheetz has been partnering with Electrify America to install chargers at their gas stations.  It’s coming.

The article also fails to recognize there is still little choice and inventory.  It’s hard to buy somenthing that simply doesn’t exist.  All of the Mach-Es, Lightnings and Hummers are spoken for. More obtainable cars like our Bolt do not sit on lots, and inventory is scarce. Aside from price parity, they need to

I’m not sure either. Someone smarter than I would have to engineer this and figure out feasibility.
