In theory. In reality, fingerprint background checks are subject to many of the flaws and limitations of traditional checks, and for mostly the same reasons.

A lot of folks seem to forget that, even if Uber and Lyft throw a corporate hissy fit and leave Austin, they can’t take the market for ride sharing with them. Someone else will step in (in fact there are already several competitive services waiting on the wings).
“...that since anyone who’s ever committed a crime gets their fingerprints taken...”
Expense and time for the drivers. It's a pain in the ass to get fingerprint background checks. I have to regularly for my job. My job pays me to go get this done and reimburses me for the expense. I'm guessing uber wouldn't do that, as they 1099 their employees so the employee would have to use the expense as a tax…
Why need a finger print? Whenever I've applied for job with a background check they didn't need that. Just social security and basic infor to look you up in the system.
why not just require anybody who does this kind of work to get a twic? twic is a transportation worker identification card. it requires background checks and fingerprinting. cost around $130 for a 5 year card.
Welcome back (sort of?), Day Man!
Hell yes Swarthy
Are we certain this isn’t Russian “humor”
This is what happens when you tell people that if one person is offended, it’s one too many.
What, you guys have never seen a CPAP* mask before?
This is such a punk ass move by somebody, (likely the stepdad).
Eh, I didn’t want to be that person, but to hell with it :) I was an art history major and now have a very meaningful and well-paying job working with first-generation college students. We aren’t all unemployed (actually, my AH friends are the one group that all have stable gigs), and I got to spend 4 happy years…
Heh, it’s so optimistic to think that there’ll be jobs left for our kids. Me, I’m preparing my kids for Thunderdome. Their practice with spears and spikes welded onto a dune buggy will definitely edge out anyone with a bachelors of arts degree in 2030.
