I agree that a LR should be capable off-road, but that off-road capability (which almost no-one uses) comes at a price: it's an engineering trade-off that demands additional un-sprung weight, higher center of gravity, etc... The ride and handling may be good, but they would be much better if it were designed strictly

A better comparison would have been "And how many Porsche 911s get driven fast?"

That's a terrible comparison. The properties that make a Porsche good on a race track make it fun to drive on the road, The properties that make a Range Rover, or any SUV, good off-road, detract from the driving experience on the road.

"Whoever the next president is, he or she won't be the first head of state to fly in a 787-8. UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has one, as does Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto. It's a baller-ass plane, basically"

"take 1 g of lateral acceleration. " I saw plenty of acceleration in the video, but very little of it was lateral.

Ironically, though, CA has the most lenient rules for specially constructed, or kit cars. 500 per year are allowed CARB exemption under SB100. I'm currently building a FFR 818 that will be titled as a 2015, with no catalytic converter or evap system and no SMOG checks required.

10 feet long? BMW Isetta laughs

"Stop futzing in the garage... I want to go for a drive!"

agreed. came here to say that if "The wreck almost appears out of nowhere" then you're driving too fast for the conditions. period.

I think bonus points should be granted for Country of Origin: my garage.

VW and Audi. Maybe that explains it.

Every alternator I've every replaced has been due to bearing failure, requiring a full re-build.

Not being able to shut off the motor when the car is moving is also a safety issue. Lexus got sued big time over cases of unintended acceleration and the start/stop button was a factor in the infamous fatal crash in San Diego. Of course, Neutral is the best option in this case.

Not only driving too fast on a donut, but not rotating it to the rear... On your typical front engined, FWD sedan, if you get a flat on the front, take the extra time to rotate a full sized tire where 60+% of the weight, all the acceleration and most of the braking happens!

I shift from 5th to 3rd all the time without damaging anything... But when I do, it's intentional... a rev-matched hell/toe downshift approaching a corner.

Agreed... my wife and I special ordered her 135i to get exactly what we wanted and nothing more. Pretty much had to, since there was no dealer stock with a stick. And we got a discount. She did get a call a couple days later from the manager making sure she wanted a manual transmission!

Yes, a truly blind corner should be taken quite slowly, but it's a huge exaggeration to say all of PCH is such and needs to be taken at 10mph... I've bombed PCH many times at well over the posted limit. Most of the really fun sections between Cambria and Big Sur have sight lines to be able to look ahead several

Not to be an jerk, but you should be able to stop without your range of vision. Blind corner? slow down! They're could have been anything around that corner. It doesn't really matter what caused traffic to come to a stop (justifiable reason or not) If you rear end stopped traffic you're at least partially responsible.

Wouldn't it be easier to simply ask how many pedals is has?

A few year ago I had just (self)parked my Z in the parking garage at a hotel and noticed the valet doing basically the same thing with someone's Lexus. I went in and reported it to the hotel manager. He initially tried to downplay it at which point point I brought up the liability issues and that I know an unsafe
