You'd wind up playing the teams in your conference from that particular division. For instance, there'd probably be 9 or so SEC teams in the top 30-40 so they'd play each other regularly. A lot of the team scheduling would have to be done geographically, I'd think.
Screw conference re-alignment. Teams could stay in their current conference but they wouldn't necessarily have to play every team (or almost every team in the case of bigger conferences). Think of it like NASCAR teams.
