Isn’t it funny how something so common-place is so unjaring, at least it was for us.

Same here! A few times a store has had a new contactless terminal and I’ve gone to pay and they tell me it doesn’t work... I try anyway and, it actually doesn’t work and they roll their eyes at me. But, in my defense, the norm is that they either don’t know or actively think it doesn’t work but it does.
Cruelty and hate I can at least understand... the irrational hypocrisy is what drives me crazy. The same parent’s who think their son’s rape conviction should be wiped from his record because it will adversely affect his ability to have a successful career are out there saying “well, if he didn’t want to get shot he…
Really? They cost the same as a regular credit card terminal based on the research I just did. If that’s the case, the solution, obviously, is to not let customers pay with their phone (or ask them to pay at the register on their way out)... the solution is clearly not to ask the customer to give the staff the…
As a gun-owner, it is people like you (people who don’t see the difference between shooting someone for stealing one beer and shooting some in self-defense or in defense of others as they are being shot at by someone) who make me realize that we are in drastic need of gun control policies. One “good guy with a gun”…
For years I also didn’t have a security lock on my phone. Can’t remember what made me change... it was before ApplePay... but I’ve gotten very used to it. The fingerprint ID helps as I don’t have to actually type in a code each time. Ah, and as I type this I remember that when I initially DID set it up, I set it to…
I don’t follow. When you pay with your phone at a restaurant which accepts it you pay at the portable credit card terminal they bring to your table. That’s how the rest of the world does it. Why would you give your unlocked phone to someone?
So, interestingly, my partner and I go on vacation to Montreal once a year and when we pay with a credit card at restaurants there they bring out a portable credit card terminal and the transaction happens there at the table. No robots needed! (We’ve been going there for 5 years and think it has been the same every…
Waiting for the chorus of “well, he shouldn’t have been stealing then” as I wonder if the people who ask that are also OK with citizens shooting other citizens who commit crimes other than stealing beer. The guy who passed me on the interstate last night going 70 in a 65... I get to shoot him? I overheard my neighbor…
I continue to be shocked by the amount of local hole-in-the-wall type stores and restaurants that take ApplePay and have no idea. I’m regularly trying it out and surprising the person at the cash register.
1000% agree. I never have cash on me and I don’t think twice about spending $1-2 at a time (I should, but that’s the topic of a different conversation) so I’m the ideal market for ApplePay on vending machines or anything.
Agreed. There’s no way I would risk going somewhere without my physical credit card. But, given the option, I use ApplePay whenever I can. The more and more I see vending machines support ApplePay the more I think it’s starting to finally go mainstream!
Yes! Yes! Yes! I am getting so fed up with trying to convince people that ApplePay is secure... the very people who think nothing of giving their credit card to a waiter and have them walk off with it to a back room out of sight for 3 minutes, or who think nothing of writing a check with their name, address, phone…
I get them though, I start to just buy them Christmas gifts and grossly under-inflate how much it cost. “No, no, no, I got it on a super discount for black Friday Mom...”
One time, I when i was able to make it work, I literally got a check in the mail with a note from my Mom saying “Dad insisted on sending you this check.” lol
I make more than my parents but I would literally have to knock my dad out before he would let me pay for dinner... it’s almost come to that. lol
Like you mention in the article, I too needed to use my Mom as a sounding board to talk through a recent job offer/change. Most of the conversation didn’t involve specifics but at some point, it was silly to dance around a specific number so I asked “well, would you want me to tell you the salary they are offering?”…
My biggest problem is of my own doing... I have one Instagram account but use it equally for wholesome things like following local business, friends and family, and explore travel destinations... while also using it to check out scantily clad beefcakes, moderately NSFW meme pages, and general smut. The more I think…
To this day there are Oldies songs that instantly take me back to listening to them played through a nearly-empty grocery store when I would work the early morning shift at the produce department... rotating the veggies while listening to the music echo around like this. Takes me back every time. (Also, unrelated,…
Right? There aren’t many other options out there for tax-free income but if you start out early enough investing in a Roth IRA, in retirement you’ll have quite a bit of tax-free earnings from the principle. The real lucky folk are the kids who have parents in a position to fully fund their Roth IRA as soon as they…
