Sometimes it is justified. I am glad they got a baddie off the street. Maybe it is extreme, but it did work and dang, nowadays, cops are outgunned by the baddies pretty good in the States (not so much up here in Canada, but yeah in the US, it looks like it) and I would be scared to be a cop in the States.

All I know is this: I would not want to be a cop in America. Your bad guys have way more firepower than most of the cops out there and having my butt on the line would make me nervous too.
