I just watched The Handmaiden this weekend. It works much, MUCH better as an emotionally involving romance than Blue is the Warmest Colour, which it seems fair to compare it to since they were long, arty lesbian romances with incredibly explicit sex that came out at about the same time. The leads are so great!!

Alfre Woodard is spectacular in this role, but I swear to Christ, if they stand one more villain in front of that portrait of Biggie so that they’re wearing the crown/declaring themselves the ruler of Harlem, I’m going to throw my television out the window.
Mahershala Ali being incredible just made Willis & co seem soooo much worse. Terrible is a stretch imo, but definitely mediocre. The first half was damn good though.
If they had layered Willis into the back story better then it would have worked more.
