I saw a Twitter discussion by someone who claims that the Egyptian government tolerates a good percentage of the Suez pilots being incompetent.

It’s common practice (which is to say, 100% normal) for anyone accused of a crime, whether or not they have remorse. The reason we know this asshole has no remorse is not “omg he pleaded not guilty!!!!”, it’s his previous statements, including interviews with the media, where he throws out fake-ass excuses and denials…

If you’re drawing the line around “real life” things, Shrimp Tail Guy being a serial liar and abuser is pretty serious, with faking allegations of a product being dangerous also not on the ha-ha list. But do go on with how only the stuff that interests you is appropriate light entertainment.

I’ve had some success with the “polite fiction” approach - you know, how you pretend that the other person just did something embarrassing and socially awkward, so you pause for an uncomfortable length of time, and reply with a complete change of subject and then let him blabber on while you make listening noises.

Serious question: why bother talking to him on any subject that is not strictly required by your job? He’s not going to listen to anything that disrupts his need to feel like he knows everything and is always right.
