I think the director did a wonderful job juxtaposing Baldwin's words with different forms of entertainment. Overall the entertainment that some relay on for happiness and self worth is all a lie. People were striving for Doris Day perfection but in reality life was a naughty Ray Charles song.

One thing that really stuck with me was Baldwin's final interview in the film. Some white people NEED us to be n**gers..But I'm not…and I wont be.
