It's almost like cultural trauma. My mother can't help but to react certain ways because her childhood/teenage years consisted of watching her people being mocked or basically killed for demanding equal rights. I use to get annoyed with her statements, but i understand now and sympathize.
It's a great piece of work. I completely understand my folks and their generations attitudes toward race. So much has changed for POC, yet so much has stayed the same. :(
There's a scene in "I'm Not Your Negro" that ask the same question. Why are white men so angry, well basically afraid of people of color? The feeling of being left out of cultural relevance, the shame of not living up to the American fantasy that they help create? Guilt?
It's like bread pudding but with egg noodles…
Honestly the only two white people ive seen at family cookout is my moms Jewish work bestie (Who brings noodle pudding and it's the BOMB) and my best guyfriend who knows well enough to bring his favorite craft beer (cause my uncles/cousins have no clue what that is) and a bottle of grey goose as a sign of good faith…
She was insane about making Jody pull the weeds from the gardening manually. That's just evil busy work.
I don't understand the argument of "There's a proper way to respond when someone spray paints the N-word on your house" Like I kinda feel like the said person can respond anyway they see fit. That's extremely selfish of Whitlock.
Wow Tiger. You looking crazy in these streets right now…like literally…
It's almost shocking how the majority of rappers are full of it. And the ones that were really about that life persay?.. well they're either dead..in jail..or popular but in a niche audience.
As ive gotten older and working in entertainment, I've learned a lot of things. Most importantly the rappers I grew up with…the ones I know, love, but mostly thought were edgy or "badass" Most of the time it was all PR spin. NWA, Dre, Snoop, they weren't as "hard" as they portrayed. That was a fun time in music but it…
Luther Vandross.
Ive heard him sing live. He's quite talented.
Yeah…too many runs is insufferable. It's basically telling me you're super insecure in your singing abilities.
Most of the time I've been the only person of color that was at the job. I guess I never thought to myself. "Oh wow what should I say or shouldn't say around white people."
Oh girl. it's so different now. Mind you, the block is still quasi hot…people can still get robbed, but it's changing at a alarming rate
I actually like Popeye's..not all the time..but it comes through in those clutch moments.
Don't get me started…I live in the Bergen Hill area. haha
There is such a thing as gentrification of culture cuisine and it needs to be addressed. I do roll my eyes when you charge someone 25 dollars for a fried chicken plate and I know darn well I can get the same plate for a fraction of the price at Hollywood Fried Chicken (aka the best late night chicken spot in downtown…
Yeah he wasn't a jerk at all. Just very high and just seemed a bit lonely.
