You’re not thinking in terms of the practical aspects here - people need transportation. Mainly to work. Where they earn the money that pays for (a) repairs or (b) new car payment. Your suggestion would be practical if they had another vehicle to do the job, but most people who are in this position own one car (and

Not one!

Well we know one guy who didn’t break out of prison recently.

I WAS IN THE POOL

Isn’t this the problem tho. This entire scenario is brought about because the devs think “they” know what’s best for players (without asking for their feedback).

Forcing people to experience the game they love only in the way you want is never smart, no matter the genre.

So after you explore the entire place. You get to fly. Finally. Yeah lucky us!

because statistics? you really need someone to explain to you why you tiny, small personal life experiences don’t necessarily equate to the truth for the masses?

Infinite Crisis, aka - Batman, Alternative Batman, Alternative Alternative Batman, Vampire Batman and Batman Batman vs Other Batman, Super Batman, Steampunk Batman, Other Other Batman and that one Wonder Woman character who’s insanely overpowered and played by the only person actually playing Infinite Crisis because

It did, though, since it’s been in some manner of public beta (invite or otherwise) since May of 2013. If it ain’t catching on after 2+ years, it’s not going to. Of course, the lackluster gameplay (even for a MOBA) and some truly fucking horrifying costumes weren’t helping matters.

Microsoft completely bricking a system, even for an unspecified amount of time, is definitely an underhanded maneuver. Supposing the game was installed on the testers’ consoles, it would have been more understandable to simply deactivate the game itself or force an uninstall. I get the severity of the issue here, but

Permanent or not, I find that a severely harsh punishment for a leaked screenshot. I feel sorry for the guy. I’d have thought a kick off the Beta and no entry to any future betas for anything on XBL would have been sufficient.

I don’t feel bad for the leakers — if you’re gonna leak something, at least do it through Kotaku so we can protect your identity! — but it’s terrifying that Microsoft can just hit a button and turn a $350 machine into a brick.

Might not be permanent, but that’s insane. Especially since Microsoft was so gung ho about being the “centerpiece of your living room” and all.

Wow... thats pretty extreme. Is this actually allowed? I understand they were part of a program and they probably broke a bunch of disclosure agreements, but bricking systems permanently sounds like overkill.

Several. If Google were really just worried about extensions being installed mistakenly without someones consent they wouldn’t block extensions that people manually install through the developer mode since that clearly requires knowledge and intent of the user.

The only reason for this move is that Google is trying to prevent people from installing extensions that allow them to download HD YouTube videos.

As a former MMO dev, yup, would have loved to seen some of this kind of street justice played out by my coworkers.

God, people really will find a reason to complain about anything. Game developers are people too. They have the right to have fun, just as much as the people playing the game. Publicly pwning that hacker was probably a ton of fun for them. Let them have it. Christ...
