Far as I know jump pilots only wear chutes in case a jumper’s canopy gets fouled on the tail, which might make the plane uncontrollable. But yeah, this dude is sketchy af. The fact that the plane was rigged with cameras and he was wearing a chute is not going to look good when the feds interview him. 

I’m a flight instructor - nobody flies with a parachute unless they’re a jump plane pilot. In an emergency you’re much safer flying the plane down to the ground than bailing out with few exceptions. I would like to see this from another angle. Had that been possible, I’m sure we would have seen the rapid deployment of the Anti-Dipshit Device (ramp) from the Yaris’ bumper sending the Rover inverted. But until then we can only postulate about the existence of such a device.
