Every character on Bebop is a question of what race/ethnicity should be cast.

Given how mad geeks were that L was black in Netflix’s Death Note, but how little they cared that Light was a white American, they’re going to insist that Faye be white, and if she isn’t, they’ll call it the worst sacrilege since Jesus was crucified. American geekdom has a very obvious racism problem.

Ten bucks says she’ll be mixed Asian/Caucasian. Hollywood is more than comfortable enough these days having mixed race actors in co-lead parts, and everyone else in the main cast is likely to be white anyway, so they’ll allow it. They get much more scared when it’s a lead in a blockbuster.

Here’s a fun conversation that’s gonna happen: what race/ethnicity do they cast Faye? The only thing we do know is she’s from Singapore, but they don’t really address what kind of, or if she even is, Asian.

As I said on the tweets, Cowboy Bebop is one of the defining Anime series’ of all time, and one that almost single-handedly introduced a massive number of people to the medium via Toonami. It’s also one of the few properties, in any medium, that is as close to perfect in it’s vision and execution as a thing can be.
